Know How to Choose a Chair
The chair is thousands of years old, but, it originally started off as a stool that the Egyptians and Greeks of ancient times added a back to. Hence, the birth of a new piece of furniture that has over the years withstood its role in decor. That is why it is important to know how to choose a chair properly.
If ever a piece of furniture was enslaved to its owner, it would have to be the chair. It is developed to always be able to withstand a heavy load, and it must be stylish.
And there’s so much to chairs. They are in almost every room of every house in the Western world. You probably can’t find room that doesn’t actually house a chair. From entryways to bedrooms, from kitchens to bathrooms, from living rooms to play rooms, you will find this piece of furniture within them. Either they are there to add a touch of style or actually serve a purpose, no matter what, this piece is inviting.
Choose one however that fits with the furniture and the architecture that exists in the room. For example, don’t use country chairs around a delicate Victorian Table. Moreover, be careful of the different types of wood you try to mix within one room. Not all types of wood can be placed next to each other. Take for instance, an oak table surrounded by mahogany chairs — it just doesn’t go.
When buying furniture, it is important to examine it, especially when it comes to chairs. To begin with, you should be buying something that fulfills your needs, and being completely honest to yourself as to how much you use, they will be getting. One very important point when choosing furniture is who will be using it. If the answer is children, you must consider children friendly furniture that can withstand much more than the more delicate furniture. Also, if children are to be using them, always choose something that is easy to clean.
Durability is key in a chair, and is reasonably easy enough to find, even for the untrained eye. Look for straight legs, which are stronger than splayed legs, if the chair is going to be used very regularly. In addition to that, ensure that there are stretchers that connect from a leg to leg to add even more strength. Turn the chair upside down and inspect the seating. Ensure that there are corner blocks attached to each corner of the chair in order to add more strength to the seating area.
Move the chair, in order to see if it wobbles when you release it. For an all wooden piece, it is important that all the wood is matched, and that the grains are in the same direction. Carefully inspect the finish to make sure that it is smooth and clear. Quality construction pieces do not use nails, therefore, you should find only screws. A chair must be well proportioned, so that it does not tip over backwards easily.
Chairs that are completely upholstered require more knowledge. Sit down and check for comfort. There are many things that go into a High Quality upholstered chair: the cushion, the batting, the springs, the weaving, and much more that we don’t get to see. For instance, more expensive pieces have springs that are hand tied. They also usually have piping that adds years to the life of the chair.

Mould growing in upholstered office chair?
Hello
I have an upholstered office chair which has patches of mould that have recently appeared on the fabric.
Is there anything I can do to remove the mould, or replace the padded part of the chair?
Thanks.
I recently read that vinegar will kill & remove mold (it’s an acid), you can use apple cider vinegar but the white vinegar is stronger, use it full strength and soak the mold. Once the mold seems to be gone you can wash it up with some water and mild detergent to remove the vinegar smell or just let it dry as is and eventually the vinegar smell will disappear. I’ve never tried the vinegar yet and I read that bleach will not kill the mold at it’s roots roots and it will reappear. If it’s too cold outside to let the chair dry there try placing it in front of the window where there’s lots of sunlight, sunlight does a very good job of drying anything more quickly. If there’s not enough sunlight just use a fan of some sort to blow air across and/or around it until dry (this may take hours though depending on the thickness of the cushions). If you have a wet/dry shop vacuum use it to vacuum out as much moisture as it can first and it will dry faster.
