How to install hardwood floors
How to install hardwood floors
It is important to beginning any flooring installation first by planning room and decide where to start. Many of the rooms, which at first seem very difficult situations to overcome. Do not worry too much about them, all situations have a solution that is discussed in this section, failing more information can be found in the section of tips and suggestions.
Planning: –
When first presented with a room or area that has to be fitted with solid wood floors several key factors will help you decide where to begin installation. doors, the shape of the room and the location of the main window, are factors to take into account, as well as the underground (ground existing one which should be covered with solid wood flooring), here are some rules and suggestions: –
Rules –
-
When the floor on the Solid wood is on top of existing floor boards to lay the tables provided at 90 degrees to the floor boards
-
It is important not to stop a piece of ground at the end of a row which is less than 5 cm in length or the last row of less than 5 cm wide. To avoid this measure the width of the room and the length and divide results by the dimensions of the floor to install. Then it may be necessary to start the first row with a table or even a means to reduce the width down to accommodate the area
-
An expansion joint must be inserted into any surface that is greater than 8 m in length and width, in effect, the creation of two land areas
-
Acclimatise the boards in the room are to be laid at a minimum of 48 hours. The room should have relative humidity between 45% – 65% and a temperature of 18 C – 20 ° C
Suggestions –
-
It is generally accepted that the best visual effect when installing solid wood flooring is to lay the planks in the direction of the light source, so that by the main window (do not forget rule 1 above)
-
It is also suggested that the soil should run along the wall of the room with the best results in general. (Again, take note Article 1 of this article)
-
By placing a floor through a door so it is best to start now and work back into the room
Installation Guide: –
Once the planning stage is completed it is time to prepare the room from the basement. It is vital that the base is in the best position for the new floor to perform as expected and help maintain their longevity
Subfloor preparation –
The main factors to consider are the softness, dryness and general leveling of the plant. If the ground is not uniform then the new floor will not last long as the pressure on the joints is caused to separate tables
For concrete floors make sure they are dry (it takes approx. 1 day for every 1 mm of fresh concrete to be considered dry enough for a solid wood floor to be installed). The relative humidity of the soil is also vital importance that should not exceed 85%
For wood subfloors, be sure that there is no movement on the ground. Any words loose boards should be nailed or screwed into place. WBP (water and boil proof) layers can be used on existing tables to provide a suitable surface ground
All floors should be smooth and level
Finally, all waste must be cleaned and the surface of the subfloor must be free of dust and other contaminants
Techniques Installation: –
There are three main ways to install a solid wood floor,
-
Secret nailing
-
Glued directly to the base
-
Installation of solid wood in a self-adhesive underlay
All these methods are perfectly acceptable methods of installation for a domestic application, each method has its advantages and draw backs. It is often the basement will help determine what what is the most appropriate facility.
Installing floorboards – secret nailing –
Secret nailing a wood floor is a method usually chosen when the existing subfloor is wood or when installed directly into the joists. Solid wood floors should have a minimum thickness of 21 mm if it is to go directly to the joists.
You can use Nail Art secret ballot if the subfloor is concrete or rule. A waterproofing membrane (DPM), it is placed on the concrete followed by a 18 – 24mm WBP plywood sheet.
Home of the first row on the loose at the seams parallel to the wall leaving an expansion joint 15 mm. Begin by placing the mounting wedges against the wall to give an area of 15 mm. This is vital as the boards expand and contract solid after installation and whether this difference is not present the plant will rise and buckle in the room. The wedges are removed after installation is complete and the gap is covered with either socket or item
At the end of the first row, no doubt, have to cut a board to size. A good way to measure the length of the board of directors required to turn the loose board 180 degrees (up) so that the tongue faces the language of the previous row. Rest of the board near the front row then marking and cutting boards to size.
(Note: When cutting solid floors to ensure that new blade is used)
Once you are satisfied with the alignment, face nail the boards into the ground, at intervals of 250-300mm or within each beam. Face nailing is nailed at the top of the tables in the basement, fighting sink nails and fill the hollows with wood filler.
Depending on the tools used and the width of the flooring installed, may be needed to cope with two or three rows before nailing secret can begin.
Continue down the rows of boards to ensure that maintain the expansion gap of 15 mm around the perimeter of the room. Stagger joints so that the end joint of each row is over 150 mm of difference (Rig brick)
Keep nails at a distance of 250-300 mm, secret nailing the iron in the soil. secret nailing is a method where the planks are secured through the language of the joints in a 45 degree angle and countersunk to allow the slot on the board along to fit tightly. mechanical nail guns are the best way to achieve professional results and make installation easier.
The last row can be measured and marked as using the following technique, where first, that the card is marked directly on top set the last row. Place another board on top of the table loose, but this time the board has pushed higher against 15-mm wedges the wall to give the correct size to allow expansion. (Be careful not to move the board to check) Now draw a line along the top edge of the table that marks the table below.
The ranks of the latter also have to be face nailed as there will be enough space for secret nailing.
Installing floorboards – direct bonding –
direct bonding is an appropriate method of installation to be fixed to the top of a concrete subfloor or mortar. One advantage is that the total height of the new floor is trapped in a minimum since there is no need to install a base of 18 mm WBP plywood. Also suitable over existing wood floors, which are properly flat and firm.
The subfloor must be flat, firm and if necessary a leveling compound can be used. It is important to remember that all subfloors must be dry.
A liquid waterproofing membrane must be established first and allowed to dry.
Using a suitable timber flooring adhesive to apply a uniform layer to the base. A notched trowel held at between 450 and 900 is the best method for this.
Start the first row of tables laying parallel to the wall allowing an expansion gap of 15 mm. Begin by placing the mounting wedges against the wall to give an area of 15 mm. Namely vital as the boards expand and contract solid after installation and if this target is not this the plant will rise and buckle in the room. The wedges are removed after installation is complete and the gap is covered by any base or starting
At the end of the first row, no doubt, have to cut a board to size. A good way to measure the length of the board is required to turn the loose board 180 degrees (up) so that the tongue faces the tongue the previous row. Rest of the board near the front row, then mark and cut the plates to size.
(Note: When cutting solid floors ensure that a new leaf is used)
After two rows have been successfully installed your weight down while the glue dries. Any glue that has seeped through surface must be removed immediately.
Continue down the rows of boards to ensure that you keep the expansion gap of 15 mm around the perimeter of the room. Stagger joints so that the end joint of each row is more than 150 mm apart (the brick bond)
belt tension can be used to hold the rows close together while the glue dries.
The last row can be measured and marked as using the following technique, place first, marking the board directly above the last row set. Put another chart at the top of the loose board, but this time the board has pushed higher against 15 mm wedges against the wall to give the correct size to allow expansion. (Be careful not to move the board to check) Now draw a line along the top edge of the table makes the table below.
Installation of the tables Soil – underlying adhesive –
Solid ground can also be established as a floating floor with a self-adhesive underlay. The boards are met directly the base layer that holds the ground together. This method can be used for all underground (Following the rules set out above basements to be flat, firm and dry) benefits self-adhesive base layer is that the room can be used immediately with no drying time required for the glue to set.
Place the base layer at 90 degrees to the direction the joints to ensure there are no differences between the leaves, but equally important is that the base layer do not overlap. When used over concrete base layer, first establish a DoS with the edges overlapping by 20 cm.
Remove the foil of the base layer by the width of 2 ½ times more than y. tables
Using the supplied replacement blade, was present in the exposed adhesive surface of the base coat with excess paper to the wall to bend back over the base layer top
Shim adjustment against the wall to give a gap of 15 mm. This is vital as the boards expand and contract solid after installation and if the difference is present the plant will rise and buckle in the room. The wedges are removed after installation is complete and gap is covered by any base or starting
Position the first row along the wall and wedges to allow the expansion gap and ensure that this is perfectly straight. (If the first row is perfectly straight across the floor will be ruined) At the end of the first row, no doubt, have to cut a board to size. A good way to measure the length of the board is required to turn the loose board 180 degrees (up) so that the tongue faces the language of the previous row. Rest board beside the first row, then mark and cut the boards to size
(Note: When cutting solid floors ensure that a new leaf is used)
Now place a second row, which will help stabilize the two rows, while removing the foil as well as help to provide a straight line
Once you are satisfied the rows are straight and well equipped, remove the loose paper outlining the adhesive base layer solid wood floor thus maintaining wild boar instead.
The release sheet can now be discarded. The remaining attached sheet will be your work area where the new rows are based in until you are satisfied that they are well equipped.
Continue to adapt to the rows below and take off the foil to fix the boards in place.
The last row can be measured and marked as using the following technique, first place, the board be marked directly on the top of the last row established. Place another board on top of the table loose, but this time the board has pushed higher against 15 mm wedges against the wall to give the Measuring proper permit expansion. (Be careful not to move the board to check) Now draw a line along the top edge of the table makes the table below.
Barriers –
There are several obstacles you will encounter when installing any floor. The trick is to identify these beginning and plan when to meet them. You do not want to end up in a hazard where you may need to delete some soils that have already installed so you can cope with the situation.
-
door frames are unavoidable, as almost all rooms have the following. It is necessary to remove a section of architrave and jam the door to allow the solid to settle in them, thus hiding the expansion joint out of sight. To do this you will need to place a piece of burlap and a board up against the door frame. Her time was pressed against the solid ground to start cutting into the doorframe. Make the cut until you reach the wall behind the door frame. Do not worry about the cut at the base and cover this line. Remove as much part of the door as possible so that the room for expansion suitable for engineering.
Measure and mark the sound to suit then install. When faced with a room There are doors on both sides of a room and solid, is installed in your home may be necessary to use glue to adapt to a table in one of these doors. As impossible to install the plate at 30 degrees and still slide under the architrave have to eliminate some of the lock set of the previous row.
Remove the lip along the edge of the tongue long term, using a sharp chisel. Apply glue to the edge. Slide the board to be installed under the architrave door and then pull back into place over the previous row.
radiator pipe covers can protrude through the floor or wall. If floor mounted solid then need to be cut around the pipe with an expansion joint. Measure and mark the position of the tubes in the sound board and cut holes out using a drill bit the things 32 mm. This should allow for 15 mm pipe and an expansion gap. Then remove excess solids to allow the board to be placed against the pipe. Solid area removed should represent a form of keyhole. Short Stay strong as these can be glued in place once the plate is installed.
