How I can determine the value of a collectible?

The first character was "Daniel Boone type complete with a long rifle and the last was one of Armstrong "in the character Neil moon." The detail was extraordinary. Before he died my father sent me. They were slightly damaged by heat during shipping. (Tin is very soft metal, especially hot). I want to determine whether it is worth the cost of repair.
