my dogs are chewing the carpet, rugs, and chair?
they only chew on it when nobody is around, they have tons of toys, they go outside a lot, one is a miniature pincher chihuahua and the other is a miniature dachshund…we don’t get it! they just recently started to do it!! the dachshund started it (its my mothers in laws) and the chihuahua (mine) just follows the other one! the dachshund is about 3 and the chihuahua is 1…i dont know what to do about it..the dachshund started chewing the carpet by the Front Door a couple of months ago, then she started to chew the chair up last week (she did the same thing a couple years back) then they started going for the rug in the hallway, and today they went for the carpet in the Living Room by the loveseat, they went under the carpet under what ever is under that! its really upsetting us! PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!!!! 
If you will forgive me, I’m gonna cut and past some information that might help. It’s from another answer I gave about dog training
“Bad item” training is how to get a dog to leave stuff alone. It is basically getting the dog to associate negative feelings with an item. Example, my dog used to get into the trash and chew shoes. Old school method would be to drag the dog to the trash can, and begin scolding the dog. Dogs do not think like we do, they don’t connect the act of getting into trash, with being punished. Unless you catch the dog in act, it is almost pointless to punish them after the fact. They don’t know exactly why they are being punished. If YOU go and knock the trash can over, then call the dog, and yell “who did this”, the dog will act guilty. Most people mistake “fear” for “guilt”. A better method is “bad item” training. Take the dog to the trash can, sit the dog down, pet him, speak nice to him, hold his collar, and then….yell at the trash can. Kick it and tell the trash can it is bad for tempting your poor dog. The dog will try to get away, don’t let him, just stop attacking the trash can, and go back to petting him, and speaking nice to him. Calm him down, then attack the trash can some more. I know this sounds nuts, and you’ll feel a bit foolish doing it. But, to the dog, the trash can is now a “bad item”, to be avoided. He is not afraid of you, or feeling bad about himself. The item is bad! You’ll have to do this more then once, but the nice thing is, you can do it at any time, no having to catch the dog in the act.
So I hope this helps. I have used it with three dogs now, and as crazy as it sounds, it works. Even to this day, if I toss something really good in the trash, my dog will go over an take a sniff. All I have to do is say “bad trash can, stop tempting the poor dog”, and the dog will back up and growl at the trash can, almost like he is say “yea, quit trying to get me in trouble”.
I have used this on dogs that were age 8 months old, 1 year old and a dog that was about 5 years old. So, it seems to work on a wide range of ages.
