Where can I buy cloaks from Ancient Celtic and Norse tradition as well as Native American.?
I am looking to get a cloak known as a Brat that was worn in ancient Ireland, It was a hoodless cloak that fastened with a brooch at the shoulder of your sword arm,(left or right) so as to keep warm and allow access to sword. I have found plenty of hooded cloaks that clasp in front form later periods and tons of silly renaissance crap. I am just looking for the simple hoodless rectangular brooch at shoulder Brat or cloak to wear as a coat to keep warm. Also I would settle for a Native American Cloak and pin that is constructed as Brat but with native weaves and what not, but preferably wool. ALso I know where to get kilts but what about really nice moccasins , leather thong type shoes or basically a thin leather shoe or boot, preferably mid shin leather boot? Does anyone know where I can get these items? I am not a renaissance dork but want to wear a Brat for coat and leather boots. When I can I will wear a kilt too. I don’t care whether Norse, Irish, Scottish or Native. Thank you.
For a brat, I’d suggest that you look for plaid wool at the fabric store or on ebay. You can even unpick the weaving at the ends to make a fringe if you want. The Irishman I camped with last weekend wore just a couple yards wrapped around him and pinned with a broach.
