How can I stop my baby rabbit from nibbling?
I have a baby dutch rabbit (doe) who at first was rather shy and timid but in only a couple of days is now getting too confident around people, and has been climbing onto their clothes to chew and when she can, nibbles people’s knuckles. I am litter-training her which is going well. How can I discourage her nibbling behaviour?
She has to nibble or her teeth will over grow, missalign and she’ll die if that isn’t treated by an operation to remove them. You have to offer her an alternative that is lots of hay and pieces of cardboard to chew. Nuckle nibbling is a way of saying ‘play with me’ you are truly lucky if you have a rabbit who does that, she is talking to you in her own way. Put a towel in your lap and let her nibble that, she loves people and wants to jump onto their lap and stay there so she is sorting the place out and making it comfortable for herself-that is so cute-if you want to spare your clothes putting a towel on your lap is the best option. Let her feel at home on your lap and play with you, she is only showing affection in her own loving rabbity manner.
