Polymer Clay
How to insert a pin of the eyes in a piece of polymer clay fired?
The piece of polymer clay is thick, like a pendant as food. I was told that after a few minutes warming up the clay would be elastic and smooth and could stick in. However, the pin eye would easily without affecting the surrounding areas? (As in the creation of a sunk into effect) and, how I can handle the part, I use latex gloves or something? Thanks er! I'm a newbie!
You can insert the shank of a pin of the eyes, etc. in polymer clay before it is cured (the most common) or after it is cured. * * Polymer clay softens a bit after cooking when reheated (or while still hot hot the first time), so it can be cut with a sharp blade, for example, at that point. But do not think a eyepin sharp enough or sufficiently rigid to do the same and generally would not be a good technique to do it anyway. There are several ways you could put the body of an eye pin (or something else) in the clay * * baked though – to make a first hole. You can do this in several ways: … "Drill" a hole with a small drill (hand with the bit in a vise "Pin" of tools, Xacto handle, or a polymer clay handle that is done, or put the bit in a hand drill or electric) … or, make a hole to get the tip of a pin in a flame red (while holding with tweezers!), and quickly threw it into the clay – you'll see a tiny puff of smoke (do not inhale, please) and a small corkscrew clay Once you leave a hole, you can stick on the end of a pin of the eyes, etc, with a little instant glue epoxy or two, or even E-6000, if there is not much tension in it. You can embed a raw eye pin, but "without altering the surroundings areas," making a small hole with a pointed tool that is only slightly larger in diameter than the stem bolt eye, then insert the pin (* * preferably bent or zig-zag for the strongest result, or use a bit of liquid clay on the handle), and just snugging the clay back up around him. You can use your fingers just to tight and smooth, or roll over small areas with bars, such as knitting needles, etc. Some people like to cut a slot * * in the clay with the tip of a knife instead of starting with a round hole, then insert your rod into the clay zigzagged on the same plane as the slit, and adjusted Back clay, which can be even better. (Creation of a mechanical "hold" on the clay by bending or weaving the rod will by far the strongest result, and no tail at all be necessary.) There are a couple of pages in my polymer clay "encyclopedia" that have the experience and discussions about doing these things: … This page has information on making eye pins, eye bolts and the like on * a * next to a clay object (As a pendant or hang), and further details of both the "snugging back" methods: http://glassattic.com/ polymer / pendants_cording.htm (… Click on the category called FULL LOOPS in particular) … and this page has more on just making holes in raw or baked (which is often done when you want do * all holes * way through the clay, by a pin of the eyes or the head of a pin, etc), or sometimes one may simply want to enlarge a hole already made terracotta: As http://glassattic.com/polymer/beads-holes.htm for the use of gloves, if clay is too * hot to handle and you need to manage, use gloves thick or just use a towel or a heating pad. You do not have to use latex gloves (or other protective gloves) when handling normally raw polymer clay UNLESS become one of the few who get rashes from it. And some people use thin gloves of various kinds just to avoid getting fingerprints on crude, but there are all sorts of ways to avoid it without using gloves: http://glassattic.com/polymer/sculpture.htm (… click on fingerprints, smoothing) HTH, Diane BPS Since you're a complete novice, "you might want to check out the rest of the classes, information and examples that I have on my site again by all things polymer clay: http://glassattic.com/polymer / contents.htm (… scroll to the bottom of the page … when you see something you want to investigate, click the name of the relevant page from the interior of the navigation bar on the left in alphabetical order).
