strange house decorations?
Does anyone know what religion or organization can have designs carved rooftop, and elsewhere storage buildings and such. The top of the house was about five white things of wood about two feet high and pointed. It was a white star inscribed in a circle painted on the shed. In the courtyard there are stone pillars adjacent to 2 feet in a rectangle and a few others scattered. There were also carved wooden gnomes in your garden with tin lids. The shipyard boardwalks / doors here and there that led nowhere just randomly there. The man who formerly owned allegedly was a preacher and the house is Very Old. We were thinking maybe Masons. Is it just a case of creativity or something else? Thanks for your responses.
Without a picture to say otherwise, it sounds like an old house with lots of "gingerbread." (Decorated, usually carved wooden decorations applied to a house for decoration.) It was very popular through most of the 19 century, and until the Great Depression. The garden as described sounds like a typical "English" garden, also popular in the late 1800's and early 1900.
