Wall cladding panels bathroom tiles?

I have horrible 4.25 "ceramic wall tiles from floor to 4 'tall around my bathroom. I want to leave, but I'm not excited about the cost, mess and effort to remove them all and retiling. This is my plan: Mount a 1×4 "Horizontal, flat against the first row of tiles below, add 1×2." Mounting strips horizontally across the surface of the paintings, in the center and on the ground. Then nail strips panels, and install another 1×4 "flat on the top shelf as a sort of gallery / trim piece. If properly sealed and painted with a paint bathoom appropriate, is there any reason this would not work, or should not do? My main concern is the total thickness of the end application being, from the paintings themselves, which is attached to 1 / 2 "of cement board placed against the original plaster walls. With the cement board, tiles, strips installation and wood siding, which would be approximately 2.5 "panel surface to the surface of the wall. Any thoughts on this approach?

Wow! I NEVER put panels in a bathroom .. too much moisture. I can guarantee you have nothing but problems on the line .. If you do not like the tile, I highly recommend removing it (the tile) and retiling with a tile you like. I think in the long run, it would be cheaper anyway. / / / … Recommend to give a good thought .. Also .. what I do when I have a nice question or things like that yourself, go to Home Depot or Lowe's and talk to someone who knows there are some ideas.
