Adventure Outing In Alps,mont Blanc

The towering Mont Blanc with its vast wealth of natural sights and cultural diversity offers an outstanding option for a quick, whirlwind tour of the Alps for tourists around the world.Soaring to Europe’s loftiest heights, the majestic Mont Blanc nestles in eastern France, anchoring the borders between France, the southwestern corner of Switzerland, and the northwestern corner of Italy. The mountain provides a focal point for adventurers in all three countries. In France, the cheerful old town of Chamonix sees a steady,year-round stream of sporting tourists who come to enjoy its legendary mountaineering challenges and skiing terrain.

The Adventure

On Foot

Mountaineering is both Chamonix’s legacy and its passion. It has become Europe’s mountaineering Capital long back, a reputation it maintains to this day.Climbers head for the Mont blanc Massif and granite cliffs of Le Brevent and Les Aiguilles Rouges.

The Mont Blanc Ascent

The ascent of Mont Blanc is a difficult climb, not to be taken lightly. But if you want to give it a shot at the most famous mountaineering site in Europe , consult a qualified guiding service early in your planning stage . The climb is an expensive outing also, and many outfitters require that you arrive early in order to acclimatize and undertake preliminary training. The tourist office can help, too; their booklet, L’Ascension du MontBlanc est Affaire d’Alpinisme, can shed some light on local mountain protocol and safety.

The normal route takes climbers from Chamonix to Les Houches, Bellvue, Nid d’Aigle, the Tete Rousse Refuge, and, finally, to the Aiguille du Gouter Refuge for the firstnight.

The second day culminates with a summit ascent via Vallot; then, a descent via Vallot, Grands Mulets, and Plan de l’Aiguille, where the cable car returns exhausted wanderers to town.Accommodations are in a mountain hut with half-board; lunches are packed in.

Barring poor weather conditions, the best timing for the ascent is from mid-June through September.

On Wheels

Mountain bikers, like skiers, come to Chamonix for its varied terrain and extreme vertical drops. Several trails of varying difficulty line the valley floor, and steep runs descend from Planpraz near Le Brevent, from La Flegere, from Les Mottets, and above Argentière, from Lognan and Let Tour.

On Air

Paragliding is extremely popular here, and several outfitters arrange tandem flights. Most famous is Les Ailes du Mont Blanc school, _ 0620 46 55 57, home to the paragliding World Champion Sandie Cochepain.

On Ice

Famed for its extensive off-piste and expert skiing and snowboarding, the Chamonix area offers over 150 km of marked runs (and many more off-piste routes), all served by some 50 lifts.

On Water

Chamonix’s focus is on mountain sports rather than water, but swimmers enjoy the pool, whirlpool, waterslide, sauna, and hammam (Turkish bath) facilities at the Richard Bozon Sports Center
