Should Americans follow Europe’s lead and “un-supersize” their lives?
I’ve lived in several countries in Europe. Yes, they have universal healthcare. But they also live much smaller than we do here in the US. Smaller houses, smaller apartments, smaller cars, smaller appliances… Everything is just in miniature. Not only would it free up a considerable amount of money, it would reduce our carbon footprints, and allow us to be less focused on materialism. Less junk, less consumption.

The question is not “should we” but “can we”. of course we should strive to live a life with less consumption. The problem is that America is a huge country. We have lots of space and feel the need to fill it up. The average home in america sits on a little less than an acre of land and is located between 20 and 30 miles for were they work. I personally commute 80 miles a day. Unless you live in an urban area you can’t walk anywhere you have to drive aka “consumption” of fuel and cars. Simply the USA’s land mass is larger than what the economy can support. We are to spread out to live the “Micro” lifestyle that Europe is forced to live. Yes we should but we economically cant
