Miniature Wire Rocking
How do we keep our puppy inside the fence?
We have a miniature dachshund (about 8 pounds) and a large fenced-in backyard. The dog is able to walk directly under the fence at the gates and a couple of points where the fence does not go all the way to the ground. We have been maintaining it in a string when it comes a urinal, but I hate having to keep their limited when we have a big backyard. We put the objects (wood, stone, large Flower Pots) before one of these sections. This works for a while and then work away and come back out. I've heard that chicken wire can be attached to the bottom of the fence and this will keep her in work? and if so, (which is more practical people in the world) how is this done? Does it look tacky?
Install an "invisible" fence along with your current fence. Some people have advocated screen in the bottom of a fence and buried elsewhere. It may work with some dogs, but not all. I had the "invisible" type of fence for over 10 years. The "invisible" type of fence is not cruel, as some people on this site will tell you. The Clash given is mild (and yes, I was surprised by it.) The shock value is immeasurable. The best type of guidance systems collars also give a warning beep when the dog approaches the perimeter before applying a shock. With proper training the dog will learn quickly where it can and can not go. Therefore, do not get a shock electric. Most people who say they do not work are ignorant about the fences in the first place or buy one (maybe a trash like PetSafe and many others) patted the dog's neck and then booted him out the door without training him. Sometimes a conventional fence is not an option. Whether the cost of fencing a large piece of property, or because some housing developments have restrictions on fences. Sometimes a conventional fence will not contain your dog at all. You can go above or below it. If you are looking for an Invisible Fence brand fence you will need to contact a local dealer for a price to install it, but I can almost guarantee that it will over $ 1000.00. If you want to install it yourself (and quite easy to do in 2 to 3 hours depending on the size of your property) that is available online (but no I / F brand). The "invisible" type of fence consists of three things. First is the cable that is buried an inch or two on the ground. This cable is defined the outer perimeter of the containment area. You can also block areas (flowers, pools, etc) within the containment area. Some experiments can be needed in this. Second is the transmitter that mounts inside the wall and connected to the fence wire, and the third is the collar the dog wears. The transmitter sends AM radio band signal that the collar makes sense if your pet gets to close the electronic field. The collar then offered a correction. Some of the best beep warning before applying a shock. Although it is a blow that will not harm the pet in any way. Small marker flags are placed along the inner edge of the field from 5 to 10 feet during the training period and removed (every other) as the pet gets used to the fence. Huskies are artists exhaust. We have 14 of them. The only thing I've found that you can not go over or under is invisible type fencing. Some people say it does not work on Huskies. They do not know what they are talking. best can not buy cheap things, like what they sell at Lowe's or Home Depot or PetSmart etc. I've found is the Smart Dog 2100 by Innotek. Can be found online at several sites, discounted for less than $ 170.00 with a collar. Extra collars are about $ 80.00. The kit has everything needed including 500 'of wire and flags, enough to make a quarter acre. Expansion kits (500 'of wire and flags) are available for $ 38.00 and will contain a little over an acre. The collars are rechargeable (unlike the "invisible fence" and most others where you have to buy the property (a so that = expensive) batteries every three months or less), has battery backup for the transmitter, run through prevention, waterproof etc, if you are in an area that has a lot of thunderstorms I would consider a lighting protection module ($ 50.00). Innotek now owns Invisible Fence brand. Splice sure to use heat shrink on the cable if necessary. They are available in marine stores. Do not use "wire nuts weatherproof "Lowe's, etc. They will not work for this application. Use an edger to dig the" trench "for the wire. cable only to be buried 1 or 2 inches down. The yard will "heal" within a few days normally. The key is taking the time to train your pet. I have known people to pay large sums of money to install a fence, strap the collar of your dog and then complain that the fence is junk when the dog blows through it. In addition, not to mention the breed of dog. Long-haired breeds require a longer contact probe on the neck (included with the previous system). Training may take a while one of ours took 18 months (it was a bit stubborn) before we trusted the most, were pretty good in a month or so and we only took 3 days! The surprising thing is that we can remove the collar, put on a leash and when we went to the perimeter of the brakes come immediately! You can also block areas yard that do not want them in. When hurricane Isabel passed that had no power for 3 weeks, the terrain was changed with all the fallen trees, and underground cable the fence was damaged and none of the kids even tried the fence. As I said before, people who say it does not work do not know what they are talking. We have 14 Huskies (15 until we lost one during the summer due to medical reasons), all run free, contained in our 6 acre chair. And no, I'm not a dealer ….. only one customer satisfied with 14 hardheaded Huskies most of them rescued as adults. We can be left outside unsupervised for hours without problems. However, do not leave them outside when we left the house. It will not keep other animals such as Golf Clubs next door. Neither a fence six foot fence … I learned this when I lived elsewhere and was attacked by a neighbors dog in my backyard. As for people being afraid of dogs, and if a field of 15 to 20 feet of barrier is not sufficient, there would be a fabric fence metal. Also, if the pet stays on your property who cares if they are too afraid. As a dog running through … well yes, that could occur, however, with proper training, is unlikely. Huskies have an extremely high prey drive. Where we live we have lots of wildlife, great and small. The children were lined up along the edge of the field and watch the rabbits, geese, deer, etc. There will test the fence. The deer and geese have learned that children can and can not go and stay just outside "Husky country." Sometimes within 5 feet of children. As I said it works. The key is training. That is the most important part of the installation of the fence. Some people advocate the "wireless" type of fence. You have little control over the area coverage. The other problem with them is "dead" areas caused by obstructions to the signal of things on the walls, trees and stuff. Your dog found these areas. Others advocate tying a pet out "because" Invisibles "fences are so cruel!" O "Why do you want to electrocute your dog? "However, think about what could your pet if it is attacked by another animal while tied?" Where is he going to go away? For at least one "invisible" fence or a conventional fence has a decent chance of evading an attacker or fighting. Please note, however ….. you do not should let your dog 24 / 7 with the collar. You should take it at night and remove the collar. If you do not remove the collar that the most likely to develop ulcers touch probes the skin can become infected quickly opening a whole new can of worms. 25 years of being owned by Siberian Huskies. Currently I have 14 Huskies most of whom were rescued by us from people who do not know what they were getting
