Originally, its a role play game. You have players and a dungeon master, who writes an adventure, which is played through by the character players, who make decisions and use dice throws to see whether they can achieve stuff like defeating a monster. But its expanded into other areas, yes miniture games and video games, ive also come accross a Board Game and internet versions.
