Can an oil painting on wood to do?
I'm an oil painter of fans and only used to paint on canvas … Does finished Wood, like the one you can buy at a craft store, used to make an oil painting? I'm wanting to make a Miniature Painting as a gift, and size-wise, small pieces of wood seemed perfect, but not sure if it would work with oil paint.
Of course. But as canvas, wood will have to prepare otherwise, because the warp of the oils. If I wanted to keep the bottom of the wood the same after brewing instead of all regular white canvas, you can find shops transparent gesso art. However, I like to use Liquitex Matte Medium. Thus, I can make transparent layers with the wood showing through, but do not worry about distortion. I prefer to mate on the Middle Liquitex clear gesso because it is softer and extremely versatile. The granulated gypsum is transparent.
