Miniature Food Fruit
What is the Best Dog Food for my Miniature Pincher Puppy?
I just got a miniature pincher and because of health complications with my last dog, I am very concerned in keeping him as healthy as possible. He is still just a puppy and my mother had gotten him Pedrigree and I am more than definitely ready to get him some new food before he takes in this one too much. I’ve read Grocery Store brands are not the way to go. I am willing to buy him top quality foods that will keep him healthy.
Questions:
- what’s the best dry/canned dog food for the pup?
- what are the best things I can give him and make from home?
- are fruits ok for puppies and how much?
- how much food should my puppy be eating a day?
- what are some possible bad things for this pups diet?
Any answers or suggestions, even not asked in my question, are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Feed a dry puppy formula three times a day until your puppy is 6 months. From 6 months to 1 year feed puppy food twice a day and after he’s a year old, start feeding a dry adult formula once or twice a day.
The bag will tell you how much to feed per day based on your dog’s weight. When feeding two or three meals a day, be sure to divide the daily amount for each meal. Obviously use common sense and if your dog is getting chubby cut back on the food and try to increase his physical activity. A puppy that’s a little thin is better than a puppy that’s overweight.

Fruits won’t hurt your puppy (except for grapes and raisins which you should never feed) but too many can cause diarrhea. Here’s a list of things you should never feed a dog: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1659&aid=1030
The best “homemade” food you can give your dog is meat. Raw meat is the best but unless you intend to feed it as his diet, it could upset his stomach. If you just want to give a healthy treat, give him some cooked meat. Make sure to NEVER feed cooked bones.
Dental hygiene is important to dogs just as it is to people. Buy a doggie toothbrush and toothpaste (which you can buy at any pet supply store) and start brushing his teeth early. His puppy teeth will of course fall out but getting him used to having his teeth brushed will pay off. The combination of feeding a dry food and brushing his teeth once a day will result in very healthy teeth.
