Why did the Persians change the name of their country to “Iraq”?
Personally, I prefer “Persia” … one speaks of Persian Miniature Paintings, Persian Rugs, Persian Rice … Persian Cats …. somehow the romance is not there, to my ear!
I am sure there is a reason, but I am just wondering if anyone here happens to know what it is. Thank you.

Miniature Pinscher: Cropping Their Tails And Ears
Cropping ears and docking tails on the Min Pin (and some other breeds) has been a bone of contention among “dog people” for a long time. For pure bred dogs, there are breeder opinions. For kennel clubs, there are breed standards and rules for showing competitively. There were the “old days” when this breed was used for hunting and herding purposes, this procedure was done as a precaution for the safety of the dog. As the Min Pin breed has evolved more into the role of a family companion, docking tails and cropping ears have become more choices than standard procedures. Many people thin k it is a cruel procedure and it has actually been banned in a number of European countries. In some states and provinces, the procedures must be done by medical personnel only.
Keep in mind that the tail of a Min Pin will be docked only a few days following birth. At this time the dog’s nervous system is not developed. With regard to cropping ears, a responsible breeder will do so during the first years so there can be a good shape to the ear. If the ears are cropped on a very young pup, it is likely that they will not look very attractive. If cropping is done too early, there will be no way to change the look of ears that were cropped too early. At this time, most breeders will leave the Min Pin ears and tail alone and the dog’s owner can make a personal choice.
Actually, the breed standard for the Min Pin set by kennel clubs like the American Kennel Club will allow Min Pins with or without cropped ears and docked tails. Right now the only reason to have the procedures done would be to meet the breed standard. If there is a choice to carry out the procedures, the owner must remember that the Min Pin tail must be in proportion to the length of the body. Therefore, if the procedure is done, the owner must be sure the breeder is experienced and safe. The dog’s health must be considered at all times. New Min Pin owners will likely have some serious decisions to make about cropping and docking. They should make sure that they have done their research on the ear cropping and tail docking procedures, chosen a safe, reputable breeder or secured good recommendations for someone who can do the procedures correctly and safely.
