Terrified of going on a plane.. fear of crashing.. ?
I am 14 years old and me and my family have a holiday booked for May but i am dredding the flight.. i keep thinking something might go wrong and we crash.. and the chance of you surviving a plane crash is pretty slim! I have been on a plane a few times before but its recently i have started to realise all that could go wrong.. and i have heard about a few plane crashes recently.. and i thought they were ment to be REALLY rare.. any advise ? Airplane crashes are actually Very Rare. The problem is that when one occurs, the media talks about it for many days – that focus on one crash distorts everyone’s perception of the danger.
In 2007 and 2008, did you know that there were no fatalities on commercial flights? Probably not, because the media does not report good news of that sort. Over those two years, more than 15 million people got onto planes in the U.S. Nobody died. In the U.S., there were more than 21 million takeoffs over those two years, and airplanes flew almost 16 billion (yes, billion) miles.
In those same two years, about 80,000 people in the U.S. died in car accidents. Did you know that? Probably not, because car crashes are extremely common.
To top it off, your odds of surviving an aircraft accident are actually very good. In the past 10 years, there have been 345 incidents, and only 16 involved any fatalities.
