Diamond Watches – a Girl’s (and Boy’s) Best Friend
In Spain when men propose marriage to women and receive affirmation, they present them with traditional engagement rings – and then their fiancées often return the honor by presenting their men with men’s diamond watches. They are a type of designer-luxury item that one would not give every day, but for that once-in-a-lifetime gift that is more than just a bauble, diamond watches are ideal.
Watch History
Clocks and timepieces have been around almost as long as human history, but mechanical clocks are a fairly recent innovation, having come into existence only about 700 years ago. The closest thing to the modern mens diamond watch was a primitive device invented in Europe during the 1400s; the first watches were miniature versions of the same device, worn around the neck. As these shrank in size over the next two centuries, they eventually became the traditional pocket watch – an anachronism that many men still use.
The Ladies’ Diamond Watch
The first true wristwatches really were diamond watches. These were small timepieces integrated into actual diamond jewelry bracelets for women who were members of European royalty. Although 19th century jeweler Paket Phillipe et Cie is generally credited with creating the first true ladies’ diamond watch for Hungarian Countess Kosewitz in 1868, there are references to such “watch bracelets” dating back as far as 1572, when the Earl of Leicester presented Queen Elizabeth I with a round watch, inlaid with diamonds, which was suspended from a wristband. Most historians consider this to be the first ladies’ diamond watch.
The Mens’ Diamond Watch
Wrist watches were considered effeminate until around 1900; virtually all mens’ watches were pocket watches. The invention of heavier-than-air, motorized aircraft in 1903 changed all of that. The year following, French-Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Dumont-Santos found that he needed a timepiece that he could look at without removing his hands from the controls. The result was the first wristwatch for men; these convenient instruments soon superseded wrist watches in terms of popularity.
Diamond Watches Today
Since that time, three companies – one French, one Japanese and one Swiss – are best known for incorporating fine timepieces into diamond jewelry. Those three are Cartier, Citizens, and Movado. The latter company has been making watches for men since the early part of the last century; today, there are nearly 200 different models of mens’ and ladies’ diamond watches to choose from, many of which are among the finest diamond watches available on the market today.

Why is my miniature horse behaving this way?
We bought a miniature horse a couple weeks ago from a local petting zoo. It is a male, only about 8 ½ months old. At first he was a bit shy, but would let you pet him & you could put your arms around him. (The lady said he was used to children petting him & messing with him.)
Now I notice that even though he will allow you to pet him, he tries to nip at our hands, boots, and puts his head down as though to “push” us around. The best way I can describe it is that he is becoming a bully.
Our 3 year old daughter just loves him & frankly I don’t know whether we should keep him & put forth the money for breaking/training & gelding, or just try to re-sell him & cut our losses now. I’ve had a bad experience with a horse & the past & don’t want to re-live it.
My gut-instinct is not a good one, and I’m very bothered by his behavior. What is the cause, what can I do?
You should geld him if you really want this behavior to stop! Stallions are known for being frisky, nippy, and full of themselves. Stallions (most of the time) aren’t as safe to be around as geldings. Geldings are usually more calmer and easier to be around, especially around little kids. Also, when there happens to be a mare around, he won’t get excited and anxious. For example, we once has this stallion who would always bully all the other horses (especially the older ones) and was very dangerous and easily upset. I remember when I was 7 or 8, he had swung around and lashed out to try to kick me, only because he was protecting his hay. Luckily, I jumped back in time.
Now that he’s gelded, he’s a much calmer and friendlier horse who really likes attention from people he knows, but is still timid around others.
But I can’t promise you that getting your mini gelded will solve this problem, because my miniature horse gelding is still nippy, but is normally a whole lot safe to be around.
This behavior could also be because he is a young horse. He could just grow out of it. But the chances are, he won’t, not unless he’s gelded. But if you just feel that this is not the horse for you, you might want to buy another horse. Perhaps a more older gelding, it will be more safer around your daughter. Mares will go into heat sometimes and become cranky, but not all though.
All over all, you should just get him gelded. Chances are, he will seem like a new horse =) Hope I helped!
