How do I remove the surface of my kitchen table? I want to paint it an ivy green. Is using paint ok-what kind?
I want to paint my maple colored kitchen table and chairs to an ivy green (Pottery Barn has a new ivy green set I want-but its $2K). Do I need to just sand the maple color off so its flat and then paint over it? My husband used Pine Sol to “clean” the table, and he took off part of the finish. I dont know what kind of paint to use either …..

i would lightly sand to remove any finish and to have the paint adhere to the wood surface better.start with a coat of a good primer.let dry completely.paint with an acrylic paint or or enamal.if using a latex i would put a clear coat finish over it.two coats of paint with a light sanding after the first coat of paint should give you a nice finish.the reason i suggest a clear coat/arcrylic finish is to preserve the finish as it will be subjected to plates and silverware being pushed around on it.good luck and ask some ???s at your local paint store.
another suggestion would be to tile right over it.i just did my kitchen counter and table and it was pretty simple.they come in all colors and sizes.just a thought.
