I want to volunteer to work in a pastry kitchen, how do I ask a restaurant this?
I want to be a pastry chef and there is a local restaurant where the menu changes with the seasons. I want to get some experience in the kitchen to see if being a pastry chef is really what I want to do before I apply to culinary school. I’m trying to type an email now addressing the restaurant to tell them that I dont mind volunteering ( I already have a part time job at another restaurant) that I just want the experience. What do I say in my email so that is sounds professional? I dont want to sound like an idiot. Also what do I put as the subject in the email?
I agree with sarah, the best way is to go in person. If you want to write an e-mail write something like this:
Dear (name),
I am looking for an unpaid internship in a pastry kitchen to gain knowledge and experience as a pastry chef. I have frequented your restaurant and enjoy the seasonal changes in the menu. I am not looking for compensation, just experience before I enroll into a pastry program at a culinary school. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
(name)
