What type of flooring was originally used in the 1920s for tudor cottages?
I have a 1928 tudor cottage in Fort Worth, Texas. I am interested in remodeling the kitchen and wondered what kind of floor would be consistent with the original. The rest of the house has maple hardwood floors, but whatever was in the kitchen originally is covered over with some thick green/black kind of material.
This is a little confusing – Tudor Cottages and the 1920′s would be about 3-400 years apart. I guess Tudor Cottage was a popular style in the US in the ’20′s.
In a far distant life as a bricklayers apprentice in the UK, I got to work on several projects involing restoration of older building’s originally constructed in the 16 and 1700′s. I used to live near two authentic Tudor cottages, one actually claimed to be the home of Anne of Cleaves.
My guess for an ‘original’ flooring for the kitchen would be flat York stone pavers. Not sure what the equivalent in the US would be but you are seeking a deep blue/grey natural paving stone. – Expensive but worth it.
