Where I can get a hope chest? What kind of things do you put in them?
A large number of furniture stores sell them, sometimes you can find some really fresh in the thrift stores and antiques. They are also called cedar chests, as were traditionally made of cedar to keep moths get into what is stored in them. They come in a variety of sizes and styles, so look around and find one that you really like.
Pennsylvania Dutch Hope Chests
The Dower Chest, better known as hope chest or blanket chest in present time, is referred to by Pennsylvania Dutch as Ausschteier Kischt. This furniture is the most appreciated and most representative of the immigrant Germans who came to live in Pennsylvania during the late 17 years, girls Centuries.Young 18 and 19 between the ages of eight to ten were given hope chests inscribed with their names and usually the date of filing.
