I beg to differ with the first response. The older tanks were typically made quite well and should be fine as long as it wasn’t stored in high heat or very cold conditions. The answer above about silicone is the way to go. Just make sure it’s made for fishtanks and not from the hardware store. Better to over-seal than under-seal in this case and then I would also consider filling the tank in a garage or outside for a few days before bringing it inside. Of course I would also use a very sturdy stand (not one of the metal ones with hardly any support) as well as making sure you don’t try to carry it with anything in it.
