Next Time You Head To The Medicine Cupboard Why Not Try The Fruit Bowl Instead?
For thousands of years, fruit and vegetables have provided the human race with hordes of natural remedies for every medical compliant. More recently however, modern medicine has replaced traditional practices with man-made drugs. Some doctors and specialists have even gone so far as to say that traditional homoeopathic measures are useless in the wake of modern medicine. Given that many drugs such as codeine, morphine and caffeine are all derived from plants surely nature still holds the key to solving many a health problem?
Headaches are a common medical complaint and one doctors will often recommend paracetamol for. This needn’t be the case however as the herb ginkgo biloba has a proven affect on circulation that can help reduce and clear a headache. By encouraging oxygen flow around the brain and the rest of the body, gingko baloba clears the tension that causes headaches. Feverfew is also thought to treat and prevent headaches given it encourages the release of serotonin – also known as the ‘happy’ hormone – that can clear a headache quickly.
Arthritis – painful inflammation of the joints – can affect the young and old alike. Pills and medicines aren’t necessarily the best way to cure arthritis however, as the natural world also offers plenty of options. Massaging a small amount of olive oil into swollen joints will help to improve circulation and prevents inflammation of ligaments connected to the joint. Eating garlic is also reported to help ease the affects of arthritis due to its properties as an anti-inflammatory.
With high street chemists boasting a range of remedies to cure skin ailments like dry skin, there’s no reason why natural alternatives can’t help to alleviate dry skin just as well. A warm glass of milk with a teaspoon of almond oil is thought to work wonders. Applying the natural oils from an avocado or a coconut has also been proven to moisturise tired or sensitive skin and is often used as the base for many high end man-made lotions.
Finally, stress plays a huge role in day to day life and is especially prevalent in the work place. Certain nutrients have proven beneficial in relieving stress however which can be easily adopted into the everyday diet. Vitamin A which is found in green and yellow vegetables and Vitamin B which is found in cashew nuts and bananas are particular good at fighting stress. Magnesium in particular is seen as nature’s tranquilliser and is found in many fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables.
Although there’s no natural alternative to products such as life insurance, there’s plenty you can do to Enjoy Life to the maximum and feel at your fittest thanks to the natural world. So the next time you head to the medicine cupboard why not make a pit stop at the fruit bowl first!

How many calories in a 16 oz. fresh fruit bowl?
There are 10 small blueberries, about 12 red grapes, three of four small pineapple chunks, and the rest chunks of honeydew and cantaloupe. This is a fresh fruit bowl like you would find in the Grocery Store produce section. Thanks!
