Tap an Untapped Market…. Tap India

India is emerging as a big economy. A few years back it was a License Raj in India. Now it’s open for global business. The opportunities here are immense, but only if rightly tapped.

Do you know that majority of India stays in villages? Do you know that majority of Indian’s don’t know to read or write English? Do you know that there are 22 official languages and over 2000 spoken languages in India?

Do you know Hindi is the Official language of the state? And do you know that electronic communication is now very easy in Hindi and other Indian Languages?

It’s often said that to touch the heart of someone, talk to him in his own language. Communication in mother tongue is widely appreciated worldwide and India is no exception. So how about communicating with Indians in their own language and tap a vastly gowing, untapped market for your product or service?

You guessed it right. You have a web site.. right? How about making it in Hindi and other languages of India? Do you know, you can grow your business in India multifold, just by one simple action… that of having your product or service information in any or all the popular Indian Languages?

Don’t underestimate the Indian Market potential. Indians are the most frequent buyers online and offline. Take a look at some of the Indian Shopping sites or Malls across cities in India. They are flooded with people…literally! Do you want to make space for your product in Indian Market? The best way to do this is… Let Indians know you, your products, your services… communicate with them… in their language and touch their hearts!

I know, you have a question in mind. If these Indians stay in villages, how is it that they will see my web site ever? You will be surprised.. India is well connected. Almost all the villages in India have Internet connectivity. And they use computers to a great extent.

Try Hindi first. It’s most popular and is the National Language of India. It’s spoken in 7 states by hundreds of thousands of people. Hindi uses devnagari script for writing. The same scrip is used for other two major languages on India.. Sanskrit and Marathi.

What all do you need to have your web site in Indian languages? Simply speaking, just your willingness. There are dozons of agencies that will translate the contents of your web site in one language or more. They will even get the contents typed in the respective languages typically at just US$ 0.03 to US$ 0.05 a word.

You have choices of fonts to use on your web site. Try using a popular one like MillenniumVarunFX, so that you will get visitors right from day one. Use dynamic fonts. People hate to download fonts. With dynamic font on your web site, they no longer need to download the font on the local machine. You can use Unicode font also. For Hindi, you can use a tool named “FontFreedom”. This is available at http://www.fontfreedom.com at just under US$10.

You will need to get the site design also to suit the respective language. The lables need to be in the respective language. There are Indian web designing firms who will do this for a small fee, typically US$ 25 to US$100 per template page. Else you can do it yourself, with the same design of your existing site.

Once your contents are translated, you need to fit them into your web pages. If you get a softcopy of your translation, fine. You are more lucky than others. You don’t have to do much than just a copy-paste job and publish your web site. Else, you will need to type the text using some good text editor. Remember, you will need a supporting language tool to type the contents in the respective language.

For a host of services related to Indian Languages, you can visit a web site http://www.cybershoppee.com, a site promoting Indian Language Computing, where you get lots of resources related to Indian Language Software and Services.

So the next time a thought of globalization of your web site comes to your mind, think of Hindi, the national language of India.
