Dollhouse Christmas
Best way to eliminate mold / mildew and musty Wood Dollhouse children?

We are looking for the renewal of the wife childhood home-made wooden dolls for our children at home (Christmas). It has some mold and a musty odor in place. We have seen it mentioned to use a biocide porous and therefore hoping that someone might be able to recommend a solution (and / or a detergent that can be purchased) will remove and prevent future mold / mildew. Anything used must be safe for children. Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much!

A history of miniature dollhouses

Tracing the history of the modern dollhouse starts with the elements that bear little resemblance to toys and collections today.

The earliest known miniature replicas date back to ancient Egypt, found within the tomb of Meketre. These replicas wooden buildings, ships, animals and people can catch a glimpse of life in Egypt Four thousand years ago. Some of these miniatures are valuable in Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, and the miniatures have spawned many copies of the originals.

Move forward, most doll "houses" built before the invention of the modern dollhouse took the form of religious artefacts detailing the scene of the Nativity of Christ. These dolls original "Cribs" are still created today and can often be found in churches and homes during the Christmas season.

However, the first event recorded by a doll's house appears modern in 1544, the house created by Duke Albrecht V of Germany for his daughter. This opulent dollhouse was said to have four floors, three windows and sixty, the doors of seventeen. Unfortunately, the house is gone, probably destroyed in a fire. All that remains of this creation was its inventory list.

After this time, dollhouses were made for royalty, seen more as a collection of toys, but enthusiasm for these exquisitely detailed houses spread throughout Europe's middle class. Skilled craftsmen, carpenters and other artisans were employed to construct these beautiful dollhouses.

Germany produced some of the best dollhouses and more detail during this period, but the most impressive and one of the oldest existing houses comes from Holland. The House Utrecht, built in 1680, like a box with fifteen separate rooms and a garden. Dutch artists spared no expense in adding gemstones and creating miniature replicas of paintings and furniture for some of their creations.

The older-style dollhouse in North America Colonial is in the nursery at Van Courtland Museum. Built in 1744, this impressive house is a replica of a New York mansion. It is the only dollhouse States United is older than the U.S. itself.

Until the advent of the Industrial Revolution, dollhouses were mostly exclusive to the rich and royal. When toy factories began mass-producing dollhouses and suitable Wooden Furniture, items are still very good quality but with less attention in the details. To the excitement of girls in middle-class families, these toys became affordable for everyone.

At the end of the Second World War, toy factories stopped making houses of wood instead of plastic because of cheaper production value and a U.S. economic recovery after war.

Today, we live in an age when they arrive Doll Houses many forms: mass-produced plastic, plywood and fiber, even some classic artistic accomplishments that rival those made in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The popularity of dollhouses has not decreased but increased the variety of choices of toys in the world. A walk through any toy store a large scale may prove that. What can you do today is only limited by our own the imagination and wallet.
