Blind Dogs

Tess the Blind Dog very much likes to play with balls and always has done. To the point where she would turn into the dog of the Mask. Pestering and pestering you lol This was her very favourite play method though and you can see from the videos that she still very much manages to find her ball even if she is a Blind Dog. A good thing or bad thing depending on the way you look at it lol. Is that this ball talks. It helps Tess and other Blind Animals to follow it through sound.

Tess also has a very special friend called Honey although she is not Blind and you can see from the videos it is a good job Tess is Blind or Honey would be in trouble!!!. Tess originally went blind in one eye after a bout of glaucoma which left her in a very unsettled state. The only choice was to have her eye removed, which cost an absolute fortune so a lesson for the future make sure you are insured… Then we got Honey and they both got on like a house on fire. Although Tess really didn’t have too much choice to be honest. As Honey decided Tess would be her new mum despite whether she liked her or not. They both share a bed together and play all day long with all sorts of toys. Tess is able to get on with all manner of duties, walking, climbing stairs, she goes of her lead and follows the noises that Honey’s collar makes. In fact she has only bumped into a couple of things and hasn’t hurt herself at all. She is an absolute pleasure to have. Being a one eyed dog was very worrying though. As we knew that the glaucoma could spread and that Tess would be completely Blind and without eyes at all.

Then one day I took Tess out for a walk and turned around and she was wimping and crying and sticking to the floor. I had my kids with me and Honey so it was a handful trying to get her home. It was very obvious by the ghostly colour of her eye that she had gone blind in the other eye. I tell you the shock was quite considerable a Blind Dog how could we cope. I tried to get hold of my partner who was out on her horse and called the vets straight away. Carrying her home in one hand and trying to get my kids and Honey to behave in the other. Tess just sat very still on my lap and you could see she was in quite a lot of pain. My partner came back and we rushed her to the vets and all of this had happened in just an hour. The vets confirmed that she had glaucoma and a massive build up of pressure in her eye. We had to leave her there over night while we spent the night worrying sick. We talked for hours about whether we should keep a Blind Dog. Would a Blind Dog be frightened, would a Blind Dog be afraid, would a Blind Dog enjoy life, Would a Blind Dog be helpless against other dogs, would a Blind Dog be sad, Would a Blind Dog keep banging into things, Would a Blind Dog be thankful or sorry they were still alive, what would people say about having a Blind Dog. These are just a few questions that ran through our minds.

We always said that if she went blind in the other eye there was no way we could keep her. Well I am glad to say that we are more than happy that we kept her, a Blind Dog or not. We didn’t have much time to make a decision and therefore we decided to have her other eye removed too. Well Tess the Blind Dog came home and within days she was back to her normal self and you really wouldn’t notice she is a blind dog at all. We decided not too molly cuddle her and just get on with it and it was probably the best thing we could ever do. It is really difficult not too molly cuddle them when they have been through that, but it really is best to let them adjust freely. It really is a pleasure having a Blind Dog. All our friends and family are amazed at Tess. Being a Blind Dog has not stopped her enjoying life at all and she gets on great with other dogs and has a great time anywhere she goes.

We do have to shout step a lot though when out for a walk or tree. So if you see two mad people walking down the road shouting step to their dog then you certainly know who it is lol I will video it one day so you can see what we are talking about.

The Important thing is to believe in your Blind Animal and they will truly believe in you too. Support your Blind Animal and they will support you. Love your Blind Animal and they will love you too. Be kind to your Blind Animal and they will be kind too.

Would you trade your life for that of Homer Simpson?

Just think about it…a loving wife, three kids, a dog, a cat and a house, plus a job you can screw up all you want without being fired (or at least you’re immediately rehired after). You can laugh at the simplest things and enjoy life :) . Only downside: You’re prone to accidents…painful accidents. But still, you don’t take permanent damage.

Yes. My life would be the best. Plus I woudn’t age for 20 years
