Dog Pet
What is your description of a perfect pet dog? I like dogs with almost no defense instinct,?
very low prey instinct, but high pack instinct. Dogs smart enough to housebreak and learn basic obedience, but not so smart that they are easily bored. Low energy to medium energy is great. (High energy dogs are not my cup of tea at all.) I like low-shedding coats in dogs small enough for me to handle and walk easily, not so big that I can’t walk or control them. Gender or even look isn’t so important to me, but cute is fun too. Breed isn’t important or mix only that their temperament is stable and not hyper or aggressive. Good health is a plus, but I have always been willing to care for them regardless of health.
What is your idea of a perfect pet dog?
I don’t like a lot of prey drive means I don’t like dogs who chase things or kill things or chase ankles. Lots of pack drive simply means very pack oriented, love to please, love to be with the pack, doesn’t wander off doing it’s own thing.
I like smart, challenging dogs. I do not like high activity but do not want a couch potato. I like clever dogs who think for themselves and problem solve. I enjoy figuring out what makes a dog tick (I was recently sold a pup the breeder said “doesn’t really like to do anything that isn’t on his own agenda”… I simply ignored him until he figured out he wasn’t getting the cookies and praise everyone else were… he now tries to figure out what he can do to please me…. essentially just changing his agenda… another dog might have needed another tactic). Size is no issue for me. I like a stable temperament that KNOWS when its time to give the big BARK. I like dogs who don’t bark much. I like double coated dogs as I am less allergic to them than short coated dogs. I like dogs who WORK… who have a job and are good at it (even little dogs should have a job, even if its just to be pleasing without being yappy and nippy). I like dogs who get along well with others.
