Cherry Cutting
Weeping cherry tree question?
I planted a weeping cherry tree approx. 10 years ago and now have shoots or suckers from the tree coming up in my yard. Noticed a large root ( 4 inches in diameter) growing out of the ground close to the tree. Would I get rid of the shoots/suckers by cutting the root off with a saw or possibly kill the tree?
Go ahead and cut those suckers out, as close to the ground as you can. It won’t hurt the cherry tree and it needs to be done. If it makes you nervous to remove them now, wait until the tree is dormant.
The suckers won’t weep anyway. Weeping cherry trees are grafted and the suckers are coming from the rootstock.

Also, there are certain calculations which need to be extremely exact. If, for example, a person decides to bring down a tree or cut down a large branch from a tree on their property, and their calculations regarding the position where the tree or branch will fall are incorrect, they stand the risk of creating much more damage than would be encountered if the tree would have fallen on its own.
