Old Fashion Chocolate Cherry Squares

Well, the chocolate lovers out there, listen up! I have a recipe for you! This Very Old recipe Hershey's chocolate people. chocolate and cherries just seem to go hand in hand and this recipe is further evidence of this. In serving these tasty places to your friends, make sure have a copy of the recipe handy. They are sure that request. Or, you can be booked, if you want and tell them it's one of the classic recipes that simply do not I share it. But be warned, it will be waiting to be every time they meet.

CHOCOLATE CHERRY SQUARES

This recipe is from an old Grocery Store Hershey's "Give-Away" Prospectus.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 / 3 cup butter or margarine
1 / 2 cup brown sugar
1 / 2 cup chopped walnuts
Stuffing (see recipe below)
Red candied cherries, halved

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the flour, butter or margarine and brown sugar. Mix on low speed to form fine crumbs, about 2-3 minutes. Add nuts. Reserve 3 / 4 of the crumb mixture to cover. Pat crumb mixture remaining in ungreased square baking dish 9-inch. Bake 10 minutes or until browned. Meanwhile, prepare the filling.

FILLING:

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 / 2 cup sugar
1 / 3 cup cocoa HERSHEY
1 / 4 cup milk
1 egg
1 / 4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 / 4 cup red candied cherries

In a small bowl, mix cream cheese and sugar beat until fluffy. Add cocoa, milk, egg and vanilla, beat until smooth. Fold in cherries. Spread mixture over hot crust. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Garnish with cherry halves. Return to oven and bake for 25 minutes or until browned. Cool before cutting into squares. Store, covered, in refrigerator.
