What is the best quality and budget friendly camera for a Film Production major to buy?

I am enrolling into a film program this fall and would like to look into purchasing my own video camera for on the side productions, such as short films, etc. What is the best quality camera that I can buy at the best price? Any help is genuinely appreciated. :) Thank you!
