What is a race of great family dog?
We are a family of 4, with children between 4 and 8. We are seeking recommendations dog family. We had a beagle mix before, but now they have fenced the problems in our community. So in search of a wandering dog! We would prefer something small medium size, and minimal preparation, ie no visits to a hairdresser! We would be happy to have a race that can make at home. We also have two cats. (N terriers then?) Sorry either no labs or goldens, too big for our taste. If a mixed race, what kind of mix? Opinions appreciated!
Shepard Australia – always play for children and as a herding breed will want to stay with them (about 18-20 inches at the shoulder, 40-50 pounds) Same for Welsh Corgis, Shetland Sheepdogs T hey are Shelties are lower and less on the weight of Australians I grew up with Boston Terriers – dogs, great for kids. With the Aussies and Shelties just run a brush more than once a week or so – good for children to be responsible for doing. I have never sent a dog hairdresser in my life – now with 43 years in dogs. Go to the AKC website and look at the list of breeds – you can read about each race in detail. Look for a mixed race had part of one of the breeder you favor. Each page is reproduced in the AKC website, there are links with the Club of Race and Race to the Rescue. Breed Rescue could b an excellent source for an adult dog will not have to deal with increased puppy issues. If you can not build a fence, try a buried electrical FECN snapshot or electric fencing.
